Not many people are relaxed at work. It is often a challenging, sometimes competitive and highly charged political environment and has many demands both mentally and emotionally

What causes it?

Workplace stress can be caused by many factors, such as excessive workload, long working hours, friction with colleagues or disagreements with senior managers. Such stressors result in a number of health problems including, insomnia, anxiety, extreme anger, family conflicts and physical illnesses, such as migraines, heart diseases and back problems. It can also lead to social withdrawal, alcoholism and substance abuse.

Being stressed can lead to physical issues such as migraine, heart disease or back pain; emotionally it may end up in social withdrawal, intense hate and substance abuse. Therefore, it s very important indeed, to work on the causal factors at your workplace to minimize any risks to your overall wellbeing.

  • Bad time management for example, is a first cause. To deal with the issue, you should maintain a balanced daily program as agreed by your day by day tasks. Find a workplace and family life equilibrium which will allow you to complete your jobs amicably while leaving you enough time for relaxation or other social activities. Don t try and do too much in twenty four hours and plan regular breathers to sit back and relax in. Also, arrive for work at least 10-15 early each day to allow yourself time to settle down into work.
  • Another important factor behind finding yourself stressed at work is the poor scheduling of tasks. Ideally, you need to make a list of the jobs at hand and schedule them according to concern. If the project is to huge, divide it up into chunks and work on each of them step by step. Further, start delegating responsibilities to subordinates and ask them to get control of the assigned work.

Positive attitude

In stressful work conditions, having a positive attitude towards work and life goes a long way in handling work challenges and bringing relief. If you are in a position to get rid of negative thoughts, you can easily concentrate on your work and other aspects of life.

Another key action is to switch your behavior and control your emotions depending upon the environment.

Stay out of office politics

One special counsel that would help you remain free from all the stressful issues is to refrain from being involved in backbiting and office politics to whatever extent possible. The fact that you are hearing such things about others makes you believe that such information about your own self might be circulating around. It leads to being stressed. If you aren’t aware of gossip, you need not be scared of it either.

Eat sensibly

Having a wrong diet is another reason that people become stressed at the workplace. You should really  watch your diet . Avoid things like cola drinks, calorie laden snacks and things with too much of sugar. If you are into taking uppers and downers tablets get in contact with a doctor to get rid of them.

Self development program

Community service and self development activities can go a long way towards calming your responses.They bring peace of mind which you would otherwise be hard pressed to find. You must think about taking up a new hobby or something similar to that.

If the situation at work is truly intolerable, you may consider taking up new skills, pastimes and educational qualifications to enable yourself to look at other work opportunities and also keep abreast of your career demands. While you may not be in a position to lessen workplace stress, you can always learn to manage jobs and situations intelligently thereby, reducing it.
