Comprehending the brain chemistry of depression can be very curative.

Since biochemical imbalances are at the core of many forms of depression, it is easy to understand that what you eat can play a major role in feelings of depression. Obviously, what we eat directly affects your biochemistry. For example, if you eat lots of junk food you start to feel not your best. Your brain chemistry is suffering because junk food fouls it up!

Many people looking for depression help can find it by changing just one thing. Refined white sugar can often be a big cause of depression. Sugar affects your blood sugar levels which affect your brain chemistry. Sugar affects your energy level, your mood and your “tude”. Sugar can cause mood swings and occasional black, dark feelings. So if you are having feelings of depression, sugar could very well be the motivating factor and its absence the cure.

You can find this out simply for yourself. Take away sugar from your diet for 7 days and see if you notice a change and get immediate depresson help. I did this simple test and was delighted after just three days! (It takes several days for insulin levels to balance out blood sugar levels.) I had no black, depressive moods after the second day. I felt more energy and good feelings. I learned for myself that blood sugar levels affect us at an emotional levle, not just physically. You can read a copy of the old classic book “Sugar Blues” to discover all the ways that sugar can destroy our sense of well being.

So even if you don’t have dark mood swings or feel other depression symptoms, you can give up refined sugar for a week and figure this out for yourself. If you can’t imagine doing without sugar for a whole week, you can do a short test that takes only one morning.

The test is simple – for breakfast eat only a few doughnuts, nothing else. Don’t eat any kind of protein with them, don’t have coffee or soda or any form of caffeine with them. Notice how your body feels in about half an hour to an hour. If you don’t pump yourself up with caffeine, you should notice you feel okayfor about half an hour to 45 minutes, then you should start to feel lousy, sleepy and moody for the next two hours after that as your blood sugar swings up then down.

Medically, it’s well researched that refined white sugar causes up and down spikes in blood sugar levels. And, we each react to sugar differently and respond to it with greater or lesser sensitivity. But if you want depression help, giving up white sugar for a week is a great place to start. Your nearest box of doughnuts can provide all the proof you need!
